Many people with Facebook profiles have smart phones and can use their phone’s application to interact with Facebook (get it here: http://www.facebook.com/mobile/), or they could visit the Facebook Mobile site (http://m.facebook.com/). But anyone can send a text message to Facebook → SMS: FBOOK (32665).
Whether on a web page, in audio format, or in a video, people can become fans via SMS, which also subscribes them to your status updates automatically.
In order for this to work, you need a Facebook Fan Page with a custom username. Here are the steps for a not-yet-fan to become a fan:
- The user needs to have a Facebook account with a linked mobile device → From the Facebook home page, click Account, then Account Settings, then Mobile (which gets you to here: http://www.facebook.com/mobile/?settings). Then make sure the user’s mobile phone number is added to their account.
- From their mobile phone, text “fan cliffpaulick.realtor” (not case-sensitive) to FBOOK (32665).
- Receive a confirmation stating “You are now a fan of Cliff Paulick McGraw REALTORS and will receive status updates on your phone.”
To edit your SMS subscriptions, go to the Facebook Mobile Settings page, under Account Settings, and find this (or click this image):
